Samsung snatches iPod win from PortalPlayer
Samsung is rejoicing because it won a contract from Apple for chips in the nano iPods, and snatched it from PortalPlayer. The benefits of such a move aside, I have to wonder about the language used by the Samsung people. They called their chip the “PortalPlayer-killer”, and they said they “knew PortalPlayer was going to take a dive.”
Just goes to show you the business is a dog-eat-dog kind of world. I am well aware that business practices can be cruel, but I’d forgotten the people involved actually relish such wins, and I think it’s sad. I believe in competition based on a product’s merits, and if I win over someone else, I don’t feel joy because “they’re going down.” That’s just a sad way to express one’s thoughts, and shows emotional immaturity. Here’s a link to the CNET News article, which happens to name the Samsung executive who said these things.
