Drobo owners who are also Mac users are in for a nice surprise when they upgrade to the new version of the Drobo Dashboard software (1.5.1). They now have the option to see Drobo alerts via Growl.
Another neat option is the ability to rename the Drobo and its volumes from within the Dashboard software, as you can see above. The interface itself has also been made cleaner. I like it.
I’ve found that the update also solves all sorts of weird Firewire/Compact Flash reader problems I was having.

Dave, if I understand you correctly, you’ve got a FW CF card reader? How’s it for you? Did you get a worthwhile increase in read speeds vs. USB 2.0? I’ve been looking at them for a while and wondering if they really work as advertised.

Never had the “dismount plague”, but it’s good to know they fixed it. OS X 10.5.8 is also supposed to fix the lingering Bluetooth disconnect issues. I upgraded to it last night, and am curious to see how things will work from now on.

They also have a newer firmware update, version 1.3.3. Coupled with Apple’s OSX 10.5.8 update, the “Dismount Plague” effecting many Drobo/OSX users is resolved.
I had suffered from this sickness for quite a while. It was driving me mad, every time I’d be processing in Aperture, and the Drobo would dismount.
No longer an issue.
