Make the switch to a compact fluorescent light bulb

Environmental Defense is running a campaign to get 1 million households to replace their incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents. They’re saying that if you swap out just one 100W incandescent bulb, you’ll reduce your household’s global warming pollution by more than 1,300 pounds. Alternately, “if every US household replaced three 60W incandescent bulbs in their home with CFLs, it would be like taking 3.5 million cars off the roads!” Food for thought, right! Meanwhile, here’s a link to the pledge.

I know a great way to make it easier for people to switch to CFL lightbulbs: sell them as a fundraiser. A buddy of mine, who is a teacher, came across this company that works with schools to do environmentally friendly fund raisers. Not only do the schools make extra money but they help the environment and make people more aware of global warming as well. They also offer lesson plans for teachers who are interested in teaching their students about the environment as well as lesson plans for “An Inconvenient Truth” with Vice President Al Gore. Their main product is compact fluorescent light bulbs which save a ton of energy and money compared with incandescent bulbs. They are called One Planet Fundraising and their website is http://www.oneplanetfundraising.com. Definitely worth checking out!
