More petunia photos

I’m posting more petunia photos. Can’t help it, they look so good — the poor things are still going strong as I write this, and it’s already October. Ligia must have done something right taking care of them. Incidentally, she grew them from seeds she harvested from last year’s crop of petunias. You should have seen her taking care of these beauties from the time they were seedlings.

We thought we’d lose them a few weeks ago when these green butterfly larvae infested them. Those little nasties would eat both leaves and flowers, and there’d be no end of them! We’d pick them off the flowers and squish them, and there’d be more in the morning… Thankfully, they disappeared, and our petunias came back to life, more glorious than ever, as you can see.

Photographs of petunias

Here are a few photos of petunias that we grew ourselves. I’ll post some more in the next few days. If you like petunias, you’re in luck! 🙂

The US has a negative bank balance of what?!

Stumbled onto this entry on Vinnie Lauria’s blog, listing the bank balances of various world countries. At the bottom of the list… the US of A. Our bank balance: $ -829,100,000,000. Say what?! Yes, according to the CIA, so it’s got to be true.

How about the US Budget? How’s that? Well, according to this chart, compiled with data from the Congressional Budget Office, our 8 years with GW Bush have been wreaking havoc on the budget.

Not really comforting news, is it? And we want to keep spending how much on the Iraq war, in order to bring “peace and stability”, and oh yes, let’s not forget, “democracy”, to that region? Isn’t it about time someone put a stop to our runaway spending?

555 posts and counting

I hadn’t looked at this particular stat in some time, but today I noticed that according to WordPress, my site’s platform, I’ve published 555 posts. Cool! This post makes 556, and we can call it my little pat on the back. I’ll let you know when I hit 1,000. I’ll probably have a little party then.

The sky at sunset

The evening sky, in particular during those moments when the sun is just about to go down below the horizon, gets me every time. I took a series of photos last evening, and wanted to share the more notable ones with you. Photos are from North Bethesda, MD.
