Sunset driving

The Maryland countryside is just beautiful, and we love to drive around whenever we can. Mostly, we go out in the evenings, looking for great spots where I can get photos of the sunsets. Here are a few I got recently in the rural areas around Poolesville:

Funny animal videos

Have you ever seen a bird do the moonwalk? It does it better than Michael Jackson. 🙂

Patches is a very unusual horse that reminds me of Mister Ed (from the TV show). Except that Patches creeps me out a bit. He likes to sleep in human beds, rides in cars, and enjoys hamburgers. That’s just not right. Horses eating meat?! I have a feeling Patches’ projected lifespan has been significantly shortened by his lifestyle.

Here’s how fiddler crabs try to attract mates:

The orangutan in this magic comedy act is pretty funny:

Do cats really land on their feet all the time? Apparently, yes, even when they fall while sleeping:

Thoughts

Busy, busy, busy

It’s a bit unusual for me that I can’t find the time to write posts, but that’s just what’s happening. I left home shortly after noon on Friday with Ligia to go camping with close friends of ours in the Blue Ridge mountains. Had loads of fun, and we visited Natural Bridge. I’m afraid I wasn’t very good company. My eye was pretty much either glued to the viewfinder of my 5D, or looking for reasons to stay glued to it. Took lots of gorgeous morning, evening and night photos and I can’t wait to post-process them.

Came back early afternoon Sunday and got ready for a photographic gig that same afternoon. Finally arrived home for good around 7:30 pm, exhausted. I’ve been using my spare time since to work on those photos. They get top priority since I got paid for them, which is very nice indeed. In between bouts of work, I also need to spend a little quality time with Ligia.

When you count it all up, it adds up to no spare time whatsoever — short of a trip to “Spare Oom”, where time runs on a different schedule… Perhaps I’ll get a little more time in a couple of days. Till then, I suppose.

In the waking hours

Sometimes, I wake up and skies like this one greet me. How can I pass on taking a photo when I’m faced with such beauty? I cannot, will not, must not.

Night falls gently on the old river

This was taken from the roof of the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA. I’d just finished a meeting and asked a favor from John, the hospitality manager: could he please let me go up for a few minutes to take photos? He kindly agreed, and he, along with a security guard, escorted me through the labyrinthine corridors of the top floor onto the pebble-lined roof.

What a gorgeous view that hotel has! I quickly took a whole series of photos, and I still need to post-process quite a few of those. I really like this one, as it shows the sun just about to fade over the Virginia hills while the old Potomac River goes on about its business.
