Inbox Zero: better practices for staying (near) zero

From 43 Folders:

“This post is part of the Inbox Zero series. You’ve doubtless already discovered your inbox won’t stay at zero — and it shouldn’t. As I said yesterday, this is a process, not some miraculous one-time event like a tonsillectomy or a Jandek concert. And you can’t just wave a magic wand every couple weeks and make it all go away. Why not use the august occasion of your newly empty inbox as the chance to start mending your ways going forward?”

I can tell you from personal experience it feels pretty darn good to have an empty Inbox, but it takes constant work. It IS worth the effort though! Here is the link.

Untapped comics riches – article from 1933 Modern Mechanics

Found this on Boing Boing: “Cory Doctorow: From Charlie, this 1933 scanned article from Modern Mechanix discussing all of the then-successful comic artists, how they got their start, and how comics are made and distributed. Includes Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Buck Rogers, Mutt & Jeff, Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Rube Goldberg and a lot more. ‘The ‘funnies’ you read every day bring $8,000,000 a year to a small group of 200 cartoonists’. How they rose to the top and how you can enter their select circle is told here by leading comic artists…” Good stuff! Here is the link.

"Baby bonus" turns into PR headache

From Reuters Oddly Enough: “ROME (Reuters) – It all started with a pre-election letter by Italy’s prime minister to more than 600,000 newborns…”

Apparently outgoing PM Berlusconi promised 1,000 euros to all babies born in 2005, but forgot to mention only Italian babies would qualify. Now the government’s asking immigrant families to return the money… (!) Here is the link.

Foney Fables

Today on Refrederator: “Foney Fables” 🙂 This is classic cartoon satire of the beautiful fables of youth. Many of these were made in the 40’s. A really nice bonus: can you recognize the voice of the boy who cries wolf? How about the voice of the duck that lays the golden eggs? Hint: think Looney Tunes! Here is the link.

Fifty ways to take notes

The Solution Watch blog has put together a collection of programs/software that one can use to take notes, and it’s worth reading. Here is a snippet:

“I am constantly writing notes. Whether it be for my blog, work, meeting, new ideas, or just basic notes, I am always jotting something down. So I started thinking about all the services I’ve used for taking notes and thought it would be a good idea to share them with you and while I’m at it, to make a list of any others that I find. Now, when it comes to note taking, I personally look for quick and simple. If I have something on my mind, I don’t want to go through some advanced system and climb a mountain just to save a note for myself. There won’t be all the note taking tools out there on my list, but ones that I feel get the job done well…”
