The same day we visited the Old Stone House, we walked the streets of Georgetown, enjoying the sights, then we stopped for a hearty lunch at a nice restaurant (see last photo below).

Medias in 2006
Here are photos from Medias, taken in the summer of 2006. Back then, I used the Kodak v610 digital camera. If you’d like to learn more about the city of my childhood, I’ll refer you to its Wikipedia page.
Medias was famous during medieval times for its wine, which is even mentioned in Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. Virtually all of the hills that surround the city (and there are many of them) are terraced or bear the signs of past vineyards. Nowadays, they’re barren. Untended, the vineyards withered away, past glories and all.
The outskirts of the city are interesting. The landscape is dotted with houses here and there, some deserted, like the one below. Houses like these exist in the city as well. If they aren’t reclaimed by their owners or restored, they will perish, and that will be a pitiable loss given their age and history.
Let’s look at more beautiful scenes from nature.
San Diego in 2006
We visited San Diego in late winter 2006. That matters purely for date-keeping purposes, since the weather in San Diego is famously constant and pleasant throughout the year. And so it was while we were there; I think it drizzled a bit one day and the rest of the time it was sunny and pleasant, in the high 60s and low 70s.
We loved the port area and that’s where we spent most of our time, although we ventured into the hills and the rest of the city for a bit. Ligia in particular loved her time there and still praises the city and its wonderful weather to this day, six years later.
Hope you enjoyed the photos!
Brasov, as seen from the mountains
When you travel through Brasov (Romania), you notice two things: the wonderful medieval buildings and the mountains that surround the city. But there’s another way to see the city — from those same mountains that surround it.
If you take the road toward Poiana Brasov, a mountain resort that sits perched atop those mountains, about 17 km from the city, you’ll find a few lookout points, positioned in such a way that you’ll get some great views of the city.
Here are a few photos taken from those lookout points.
Downtown Baia Mare, still stuck in the 80s
We walked through downtown Baia Mare recently, where I took these photos. As I wrote before, I have a few gripes with the lack of urban planning and renovation going on in that area.
Look at the photos, try to imagine the foreign-made cars aren’t there, and you’ll have to admit to yourself that the sights you’re seeing are from a city still stuck under a communist regime. I felt like I was back under Ceausescu in the 80s when I walked there.
