“The Princess Bride” cast reunite after 24 years

The cast of “The Princess Bride“, one of my all-time favorite movies, reunited recently for a photoshoot featured in Entertainment Weekly, and they gave a couple of interviews afterwards.

What a great movie, and what a great cast! I’m so glad the movie is still well-liked today!

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field in 3D

Tony Darnell at Deep Astronomy has put together this wonderful video showing the Hubble Ultra Deep Field in 3D. It’s an amazing view of an incomprehensibly large universe, which helps put us in perspective. We are so insignificant, toiling away on this puny little planet we call Earth, a lot of us involved in nefarious or corrupt activities, trying to accumulate needless wealth at the expense of others, all while our impossibly short lives run out much too quickly.

Here’s my advice. Watch the video, then go outside and take a walk in nature. Enjoy its beauty. Think about family and dear friends. Then go through your house and clean all the stuff you don’t really need. Let’s all of us (the ones who are touched by this big picture) try to live our lives in a simpler, healthier way.

Cheers!

The Unseen Sea

A lovely timescape (time lapse) video by Simon Christen, featuring photographs taken over the course of a year in the San Francisco Bay Area. I like the soundtrack, too.

Alexandra Fits in concert in Medias

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of attending a concert given by Alexandra Fits in Medias, as part of the seventh edition of the annual Medieval Festival. Alexandra sang French songs, in a style reminiscent of Edith Piaf and Georges Moustaki. We were thrilled to hear and see how good she was, especially since we’d never heard of her before.

If you do a search for her on the internet, only a few hits come up. In an interview with Mircea Hodarnau (from Radio Ring) after the concert, she admitted she needs to work on her internet presence, but knows little about how to do that. She has a MySpace page, where a few of her songs are posted, and there are a few videos on YouTube as well.

Thanks to a collaboration between Mircea Hodarnau and the nice folks at Nova TV, I’m thrilled to let you watch what we heard the night of the concert. They’ve posted the full length concert on YouTube, and I think you’ll agree that Alexandra Fits has a talent for music that more people ought to hear.

Let’s hope we see and hear more of her! I for one would love to buy a CD of her music, but she hasn’t yet published one.

We published the eighteenth episode of Ligia’s Kitchen today. It’s a delicious and refreshing summer recipe: mint ice cream, made from raw cashews and fresh mint, handpicked from our own garden.

This episode marks a first for me. It’s the first edited with Final Cut Pro X, the new version of FCP. I figured the best way to learn it was to jump right in and do some work, and this eighteenth episode is the result.
