Go eat some fresh organic peas

If you’ve never tasted fresh organic peas, or you can’t remember the last time you tried it, now’s the time to do it, because they’re in season. If you live in the northern hemisphere, in a temperate climate, go get some right now and try them out! Don’t cook them. Just open the pods and eat the peas raw. They’re delicious, and highly nutritious!

If you’re eating mature peas, their taste will be a little floury. If you’re lucky, you’ll stumble upon some maturing peas, which are smaller in size. Their taste is unbelievable. It’s sweet and crunchy and even though they taste like candy, they’re really good for you.

I do hope I’ve made you hungry. Bon appetit!

Fresh strawberries, first batch this season

At this morning’s breakfast, we had fresh strawberries from our garden. It was the first ripe batch this season, picked just minutes before we ate them. No artificial ripeners or chemicals used in our garden, I can tell you that!

Forgive the inferior quality of the photos; they were taken with my mobile phone, a Nokia X3-02. (If you’re thinking about getting it for its 5 megapixel camera, don’t.)

We published the seventeenth episode of Ligia’s Kitchen tonight. It’s an already popular recipe of Ligia’s, loved by all who try it at her culinary demonstrations. It’s already been featured on national TV in Romania, several times, so we thought it was high time to film it for the show. It’s raw spaghetti, made from zuchinni, though any member of the squash family will do. Naturally, the spaghetti sauce is also raw.

Bon appetit!

This episode will show you how to make a raw almond cake (with the fruits of your choice) from the pulp of the almond milk. For those who say raw food is expensive, I submit this as proof that it isn’t. If you can make milk and cake from the same basic ingredients, that’s a pretty good deal in anyone’s checkbook.

As usual, English subtitles are provided. Just click through to see the video directly on YouTube, where subtitles will be displayed.

It’s the seventh episode of Ligia’s Kitchen, presenting a raw zacusca recipe.

Zacusca is a traditional spread in Romania, made from eggplant, red bell peppers and onions. Wikipedia has a nice entry explaining it in detail. It’s quite tasty.

The traditional recipe involves a lot of cooking and some frying, which not only takes time, but also makes the spread fairly greasy and not so healthy. Ligia’s come up with a way to make it raw, delicious, and very healthy. Bon appetit!
